Sofa King is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 1.1 miles long, with a low point of 7,450 feet and a high of 7,635 feet, so the climb is a gentle 182 feet of elevation gain. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the Sandia Park weather station, about 15 miles away, show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 77°F, with lows in the 40s. That station sits roughly 600 feet lower than the hike's high point, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. Several other hikes start close by. Southern Crossing is about 0.2 miles away, and Oak Flat and Deadman are each about 0.4 miles off. Climbers can find Block Wall about 3 miles away.
