Mud Spring Canyon is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management. It sits in the backcountry, and the surrounding land is managed by the BLM. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. A nearby weather station records typical averages of about 70°F in April and 75°F in October, while July and August typically reach the mid-90s. That station sits roughly 1,500 feet lower than the canyon, so temperatures here run cooler. The canyon has three traditional climbing routes, all rated between 5.7 and 5.9 on the YDS scale. They are The Sidewinder, Horn/Carson and Chuckwalla 21. Several other climbing areas and hikes lie within about a mile, including South Face, Windy Peak and the Descent Black Velvet Peak trail. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 9 miles away.
