Western Spaces Wall is a climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with The Texas Wall / West Velvet Wall and Black Velvet Canyon each about 0.1 mile away. The area is a traditional climbing destination. Eight routes are listed, all rated between 5.9 and 5.11 on the YDS scale. Among them are Circus Act at 5.9, Desert Solitude at 5.10 and Western Spaces at 5.11. The routes are all trad, and the hardest is Western Spaces, which was first climbed by Don Wilson, Dave Wonderly and Warren Egbert in 1989. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits about 1,000 feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Black Velvet Canyon and Black Velvet Wall are close by, and the Descent Black Velvet Peak hike is about 0.2 mile away. Red Rock Canyon Campground is roughly 8 miles off.
