Escarpment Base is a moderate out-and-back hike on Bureau of Land Management land in Nevada's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office, about 4.8 miles long with a 515-foot elevation gain from a low point of 4,044 feet to a high of 4,603 feet. The trail is natural-surface and lies within the Red Rock Canyon area, close to several climbing areas and other routes. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits roughly 800 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the escarpment run cooler. Oak Creek Canyon Boulders is just 0.1 mile away, and the N Oak Creek Canyon hike is 0.2 mile off. The Friar and Byrd Pinnacle climbing area is also 0.2 mile away. For an overnight stay, Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 5.8 miles away.
