Brownstone Canyon is a moderate out-and-back hike on Bureau of Land Management land in Nevada, within the Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. The route is about 5.9 miles long, with a one-way climb of about 1,200 feet from a low point of roughly 4,100 feet to a high of about 5,300 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 70°F and October highs around 75°F, while July and August average in the mid-90s. That station sits well below the canyon, so temperatures up high run cooler. Horses are allowed, and the trail surface is natural. Bikes are not. The closest neighbors are the Gateway Canyon Boulders and Stagehand Boulders climbing areas, Gene's Trail and the Kraft Mountain Loop Trail, all within about a mile. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about 3 miles away.
