The Whoop-Um-Up Loop is a 4.5-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, within the Idaho City Ranger District. The trail rises about 750 feet from a low point of 5,372 feet to a high of 5,871 feet, and it is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trailhead is named Whoop-Um-Up Trailhead. The route is natural-surfaced and open to both horses and bikes. The trail is open from November 16 through May 14, and the nearest town is Idaho City. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deadwood Lodge, at a similar elevation, run to highs around 82°F in July and 73°F in September. Winter is cold, with January highs near 35°F and lows around 8°F. The North Lamar Trail and the Pilgrim Loop, a cross-country ski route, both start about 0.3 miles away. Edna Creek Campground is 0.6 miles off, and the Crooked Rock climbing area is about 2 miles away.
