Lower is a bouldering area in Connecticut, about 1.7 miles from the town of Higganum. It sits right next to two other climbing areas, Hillside Boulders and The Pyramid, and Pyramid Boulder is just as close, so the whole cluster makes a compact base for bouldering in this corner of the state. The climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes ranging from V2 to V4. The Winter of Our Discontent is the easiest at V2, and Cinderella 99 is the hardest, at V4-5. Federal Offence and Intent to sell are both V3, giving climbers a range of options within a few grades. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, with July highs near 84°F and January highs around 37°F. Hikers can find the Scovill Southern Loop and Scovill Northern Loop about a mile away. Higganum Creek, a paddling spot, is about 2 miles off, and Shepherd's Nine campground is roughly 4.4 miles away.
