Bear Rock is a climbing area in Connecticut, about 1.6 miles from Durham Center. It sits among a cluster of outdoor spots, with the Coginchaug Cave Trail just 1.3 miles away and the Coginchaug River about 2.4 miles off. The area is also close to the Mica Ledges Trail and the Rockland Trail, both within about 2.7 miles. The climbing here is sport-based, with 17 sport routes and one boulder problem. The grade range runs from 5.7 up to 5.13a, and the median is 5.11d. Among the named routes are Symbiotic Seven at 5.7, Chossmosis at 5.11+, and The Revenant at 5.13a. Rainbows and Unicorns is the boulder problem, at 5.10. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run from highs around 70°F in May to about 75°F in September, with July the warmest at about 84°F. That station sits roughly 460 feet lower than the rock, so temperatures on the cliff run cooler.
