9 Wall, part of the Feather Ledges climbing area in Connecticut, is a rock climbing destination on land managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits among a cluster of climbing areas and trails, with the Chatfield Alternate Trail just 0.1 mile away and the Chatfield Weather Caves and Grey Matter Area each about 0.4 mile off. The area offers a range of climbing styles, with 11 routes in total. The grades run from 5.6 to 5.11+, and the styles include trad, sport, mixed and top rope. Among the named routes are Rad Trad (5.6, trad), One step forward (5.9-, mixed) and Gray Matter (5.11+, sport), which was first climbed by Nate and Ryan. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Carmel show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July peaking near 85°F. Hikers can also reach the White Pond Trail within a mile, and paddlers will find the Hammonasset River about 2.7 miles away.
