White Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.7 miles long and rising just 21 feet from its low point of 469 feet to a high of 501 feet. It is a point-to-point route, and the steepest stretch comes early on, at about 0.05 miles in, with a 4% grade. The nearest town is Gilman, about 2 miles away. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Norwich show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 76°F, while July and August climb into the mid-80s. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. The Green Trail, Red Trail and Yellow Trail all start within about a quarter mile, and the Yantic River, a canoeing route, is under a mile away.
