Woodcutters Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.5 miles from the town of Millington. The route is a point-to-point walk of roughly 1.4 miles, with a low point of 219 feet and a high of 375 feet. The climb is gentle, with a total gain of 177 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.98 miles in, where the grade reaches 13 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Norwich show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 76°F, while July and August climb into the mid-80s. That station sits about 355 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. The trail makes an easy addition to a day spent exploring the surrounding network. Millington Trail lies just 0.2 miles away, and Vista Trail is about 0.4 miles off. Witch Hazel Trail is roughly 0.8 miles away, and paddlers can reach the Eightmile River at a similar distance.
