The Salmon River Trail is a 4.6-mile point-to-point hike in Connecticut, about 2 miles from the town of Westchester. It is an easy route with a total elevation gain of 910 feet, and the climb is rolling rather than steep, with the steepest stretch at about 2.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 26 percent. The trail starts at an elevation of 118 feet and reaches a high point of 536 feet. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Hartford run from highs around 71°F in May to about 76°F in September, with July the warmest at 85°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. The Salmon River, a canoeing route, lies about 1.7 miles away.
