Black-Dot Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 2 miles from the town of Gilman. The route is 0.84 miles long, and the one-way climb is only 12 feet, with the trail running mostly flat between a low point of 449 feet and a high of 473 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.71 miles in, with a grade of about 2 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Norwich show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 76°F, while July peaks near 84°F and winter brings highs in the upper 30s and a few snowy days a month. The trail sits close to several other routes. Orange Trail is just 0.2 miles away, and White Trail and Green Trail are both within a mile. Paddlers can reach the Yantic River about 1.5 miles off.
