Lily Lake Trail is a short, easy cross-country ski route in Colorado's Gunnison Ranger District, part of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is about half a mile long, with a total elevation gain of 36 feet. It starts at roughly 10,360 feet and reaches a high point of about 10,390 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 7% grade near the start. Winter is the natural season for this trail. Typical averages from the nearby Crested Butte weather station show January highs around 26°F with lows near -7°F, while July highs reach about 76°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Lily Lake Trail #639 lies about 0.3 miles away, and the Lily Lake mountain biking area is about half a mile off. Kebler Pass Camping Area and Splains Gulch Camping Area are both within about a mile and a half, making them good bases for an overnight stay.
