Gunsight Pass Road is a short, steep stretch of road in Colorado's Gunnison Field Office, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It rises about 74 feet over a distance of roughly 0.22 miles, from a low point of 9,011 feet to a high of 9,096 feet. The climb is hardest near the start, where the road reaches a 13% grade at about 0.06 miles. Winter is the natural season for cross-country skiing here. Typical averages from the nearby Crested Butte weather station show January highs around 26°F with lows near -7°F, while July highs reach about 76°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the road, so temperatures on the pass run slightly cooler. The GB Loop hike is about 0.1 mile away, and Slate River Road, another cross-country ski route, is about 0.2 mile off. Oh Be Joyful Campground is about half a mile away, and the Slate River offers canoeing about 2.2 miles out.
