Butler Canyon is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.8 miles in the Springerville Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in eastern Arizona. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated easy with a one-way climb of about 178 feet, from a low point of roughly 8,368 feet to a high of about 8,556 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so it works for hikers and riders alike. It is not an accessible trail. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Greer, at a similar elevation, show May highs around 66°F and October highs around 61°F, while July and August bring the most wet days, about 14 to 16 a month. Rolfe C. Hoyer Campground and the East Fork hike both sit about 1.3 miles away, and the Juniper hike is about 1.5 miles off. Mountain bikers can head to the Fir trail, about 1.7 miles away.
