Cave Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama, managed by State Park and Recreation. The trail is about half a mile long, with a total elevation gain of 216 feet, and it reaches a high point of 842 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.3 miles in, where the grade reaches 13 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 73°F with lows near 53°F, and April is similar at about 72°F by day and 50°F at night. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. The hike takes about half an hour. Butler Pass Trail and Moonshine Trail both start about 0.3 miles away, and Terrell Trail is about 0.4 miles off. Climbers can find Guntersville Roof about a mile away.
