Lower UW Trail is a short, moderate mountain biking route in the Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest in Wyoming, about 7.5 miles from the town of Hirsig. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail is an out-and-back of about half a mile, with a total climb of 84 feet from a low point of 8,598 feet to a high of 8,639 feet. The steepest stretch comes early on, at about 0.09 miles, with a 4% grade. The climb is back-loaded, so the second half of the route is a descent of the same 84 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Laramie show July highs around 81°F with lows near 52°F, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 30s. Several other mountain biking routes sit just 0.1 mile away, including Aspen Trail, Roller Coaster and Ridge Trail. Tie City Campground is about half a mile off for an overnight stay.
