Washakie is a hard hike in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest, within the Popo Agie Wilderness and the Washakie Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back of about 7 miles, with a total elevation gain of roughly 1,650 feet, from a low point of about 10,000 feet to a high of about 11,600 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. That makes it a ride for pack animals rather than mountain bikes. The climb is a steady one, and the route is long enough to take a full day. South Fork Lakes lies about half a mile away, and Moss Lake is about a mile off. For climbing, Wolfs Head and Pingora are both about 4 miles away.
