Bear Lake is a short, easy hike in Wyoming's Popo Agie Wilderness, within the Washakie Ranger District of Shoshone National Forest. The trail is about half a mile long, with a total elevation gain of about 55 feet, and it makes an out-and-back trip from a low point of about 10,542 feet to a high of about 10,604 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Horses are allowed on this trail, and bikes are not. That makes it a good choice for riders on horseback or for anyone who wants to keep the outing simple on foot. The surrounding area offers more to explore. Lizard Head is about 0.7 miles away, and the Monolith Cirque climbing area is about 1.5 miles off. Clear Lake is about 3.1 miles away, and Dickinson Creek Campground is about 7.2 miles away for an overnight stay.
