Packstring Creek is a hard hike in the Kemmerer Ranger District of Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back of about 8 miles, with a total climb of roughly 1,000 feet from a low point of 6,611 feet to a high of 7,722 feet. The route is on natural surface, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail is open from about May 1 through October 31, so plan on a summer or early fall visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Afton, which sits roughly 1,500 feet lower than the trail, point to July and August as the warmest stretch, with highs around 80°F and lows in the mid-40s. Winters are cold, with January highs near 26°F and lows around 5°F. The trail is suitable for horses and bikes. Allred Flat Campground is about 1.4 miles away, and the Allred Flats Group Picnic Site is about 1.6 miles away. Water Canyon and the State Line hike are both within about 4 miles.
