Oat Canyon is a 7-mile out-and-back hike in Wyoming's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Palisades Ranger District. The trail rises from about 8,410 feet to a high point of 9,249 feet, with a total elevation gain of 688 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is rated hard. The trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Bikes and horses are both allowed, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is a steady one, and the route is long enough to take a full day. Burnt Timber and Big Basin lie within about 2 miles, and Alpine Campground & Group Area is about 5 miles away.
