Big Basin Canyon is a 4.1-mile out-and-back hike in Wyoming's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Palisades Ranger District. The trail rises from about 6,660 feet to a high point of 8,876 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,210 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is rated moderate. The trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Bikes and horses are both allowed, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is a steady one, and the route is long enough to make a full day of it. The nearest neighbors are Oat Canyon and North Indian Pass, both about 1.7 miles away, and Garden Canyon at 1.8 miles. Blowout Campground, across the Idaho line, is about 5.5 miles off.
