It sits among several other climbing spots, with The Frog and The Toad and Holey Land each about 0.1 miles away, and Trailside Boulder at a similar distance. The area is a cluster of boulders rather than a single route, and the climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes ranging from V2 to V8. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June through September, when typical averages from the nearby Rutland weather station run from highs around 76°F in June to about 71°F in September. Winters are cold, with January highs near 29°F and snow on about nine days that month. The routes at Stone Soup are all bouldering, and they cover a range of grades. Matcha is the easiest at V2, and Shokunin is the hardest at V8. Matsutake sits in the middle at V4-. Samuel Hayden is the first ascender listed for all five. Paddlers can find Furnace Brook about 0.3 miles away, and the Cave Trail hike is about 0.8 miles off. For an overnight stay, Chittenden Brook Campground is roughly 7.8 miles away.
