Phoenix is a climbing area in Smith Rock State Park in Oregon, on city-managed land. It sits among several other climbing areas and trails, including the Llama Wall, the Northeast Face and the River Trail, all within about a tenth of a mile. The area has nine routes, eight of which are sport climbs and one is a trad route. Grades run from 5.6 up to 5.11c, with the median around 5.10b. The Phoenix route is a sport climb at 5.10a, and License To Bolt is the hardest at 5.11c. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Redmond show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 79°F, while July and August average in the upper 80s. Nearby, the River Trail and Rim Rock Trail are both within a quarter mile. For an overnight stay, Skull Hollow campground is about 4.6 miles away.
