Skookum Lake is a 2.4-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Clackamas River Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced. The route starts at about 5,096 feet and climbs to a high point of 5,118 feet before returning to the same level. The total elevation gain is 2,036 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.29 miles in, where the grade reaches nearly 29 percent. That makes the hike a tough one, and the climb is steeper than the descent. Plan for about two hours on the trail. Thunder Mountain is about half a mile away, and the East Table Rock-Joyce Lake - Batty Butte Trail is roughly 2 miles off. For paddling, Fish Creek and Lost Creek are both within about 3.6 miles, and Kingfisher campground sits about 3.7 miles away.
