Serene Lake is a hard hike of about 7 miles in the Roaring River Wilderness, part of the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back route that starts at about 4,658 feet and climbs to roughly 4,746 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 1.8 miles in. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. Grouse Point and Shellrock Lake Trail #700 both sit about 0.1 mile away. Hideaway Lake campground is about 1.6 miles off, and Shellrock Creek offers canoeing about 2.8 miles away.
