Santiam Lake is a 10.4-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mount Jefferson Wilderness, within the Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and is rated hard, with a total elevation gain of 1,794 feet over the round trip. The route starts at about 5,217 feet and reaches a high point of 5,433 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 4.5 miles in, where the grade reaches 17 percent. The trail is on natural surface and allows horses, but bikes are not permitted. The trip takes about 4.5 hours and is open year-round. The Pacific Crest Trail - Wif1 - Oregon passes within a mile, and the Old Summit Trail #4014 and Upper Berley Lake Trail are each about 0.8 to 0.9 miles away. For an overnight base, Lost Lake campground sits about 2.9 miles off.
