Lower Loop is an easy out-and-back hike in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, within the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District. The trail is about 3.3 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 657 feet, and it starts and ends at roughly 5,916 feet, reaching a high point of about 6,155 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.6 miles in, with a grade of about 11 percent. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is a short, low-commitment outing. Plan on about 1.5 hours for the round trip. The Vista Butte Snowshow cross-country ski area sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Vista Butte Trail #40.2 is about 0.7 miles off. For climbing, Cougar Buttress is about 4.6 miles away, and Soda Creek campground is about 6.7 miles away.
