Hash Brown Loop is a hard hike in the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back of about 8 miles, with a total climb of about 2,700 feet from a low point of roughly 4,110 feet to a high of about 4,695 feet. The route is steady, but the steepest part comes early on, with a grade of about 19 percent around the 0.22 mile mark. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction put July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. That station sits about 945 feet lower than the high point on the trail, so temperatures up top run cooler. Lost Lake campground is about half a mile away, and the Jack Pine Road cross-country ski route is about 0.6 miles off. For another hike, the TRAIL name goes here.
