Lost Lake Campground sits on the west shore of shallow Lost Lake, about a mile from the summit of Santiam Pass on Highway 20 in the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the rustic site is a popular base for fishing and hunting seasons. Summer brings the lowest water levels, with willows crowding the marshy shallows. The drainage hole at the lake's edge may not be stable, so use caution around it. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Santiam Junction weather station run to highs around 76°F in July and August, while winter highs stay in the upper 30s. Vault toilets are the only amenity. A fee is charged. Jack Pine Road and Hash Brown Loop, both cross-country ski routes, lie within half a mile. Big Lake West Campground is about 4 miles away, and the North Santiam River offers canoeing roughly 7.5 miles off.
