Geronimo Trail #557 is a 4-mile out-and-back hike in the Bull of the Woods Wilderness, part of the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is marked as abandoned. The route rises from about 3,000 feet to a high point of 4,907 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 2,000 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes within the first quarter mile, where the grade reaches about 58 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. That station sits roughly 1,150 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The trip takes about 2.5 hours. West Lake Way is about 1.8 miles away, and Schreiner Peak and Welcome Lakes are both within about 2.3 miles. Elk Lake Campground, about 3.5 miles off, offers a place to stay.
