French Pete Trail #3311 is an out-and-back hike of about 19 miles in the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. It starts at the Pat Saddle Trailhead and climbs to a high point of 4,527 feet, with a total elevation gain of 6,912 feet over the round trip. The trail is rated expert, and its steepest stretch comes at about 5.9 miles in, where the grade reaches 23%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July and August highs reach about 76°F with lows near 42°F, based on averages from the nearby Santiam Junction weather station, which sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. Bear Flat, Quaking Aspen and Olallie Mountain are all hikes within about 2 miles. French Pete Creek, a canoeing route, lies roughly 3.6 miles away.
