Fir Tree is a 3-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, within the Zigzag Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and runs on natural surface. It starts at about 2,900 feet and climbs to 3,829 feet, with a total gain of 2,026 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 26 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The trip takes about two hours. The Salmon River, a canoeing route, lies about 0.6 miles away, and the Dry Lake and Dry Fir hikes are within a mile. For an overnight stay, Trillium Lake Campground is about 3.9 miles off.
