Cod is a hard hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 10 miles long and covers roughly 550 feet of elevation gain, making it an out-and-back route that starts and ends at about 4,000 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced, and bikes are allowed, though horses are not. That makes it a route for hikers on foot or on two wheels rather than for riders on horseback. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Sunriver weather station, about 8 miles away, show July highs around 84°F with lows near 41°F, while winter highs sit in the low 40s with lows below 20°F. Several other trails and climbing areas sit close by. Catch and Release is about 0.3 miles away and Ticket to Ride about 0.4 miles. Widgi Creek, a climbing area, is about 0.7 miles away. The Deschutes River is a short drive from the park's backcountry and is about 23 miles away.
