Bonzai Trail is an easy point-to-point hike in Oregon's Philomath Unit, covering about 3 miles with a total elevation gain of 659 feet. The route rises from roughly 995 feet to a high point of about 1,074 feet before descending to a low of about 466 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.3 miles in, with a grade of 20 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Corvallis show July and August highs in the mid-80s with only about three wet days a month, while winter months see rain on more than 20 days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. The Powderhouse Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Section 36 Loop Trail is about 0.3 mile off. Mountain bikers can ride the Calloway Creek Trail and the Connectome, both about 1.2 miles away.
