Belknap is a 4.6-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mill Creek Wilderness, part of the Lookout Mountain Ranger District of Ochoco National Forest. The trail begins at about 4,014 feet and climbs to 5,228 feet, a total gain of 1,637 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 0.3 miles in, where the grade reaches 22 percent. The climb is moderate, and the route is on natural surface. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run around 84°F for July highs and 83°F for August highs, with only three or four wet days a month. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures up high run cooler. The trip is estimated to take about 2.5 hours, and the trail is open year-round. Twin Pillars is just 0.2 miles away, Wildcat Trail is 1.4 miles off, and Wildcat and White Rock campgrounds are both within about 2.5 miles.
