New Policy Wall is a climbing area in North Carolina, about a mile from the town of Mountain View. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Red Wall, Boulders and Resurgence Walls all within about a tenth of a mile. The Backside Trail starts just as close by, so it's easy to pair a climb with a walk. The area has six routes, with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.11a. The styles are split evenly between mixed, sport and trad climbing. Among the named routes are Sneaker-Doodle and Traditional Policy, both mixed at 5.6, and New Policy, a sport route at 5.10d. This Ain't No Place For You Algebra is a trad route at 5.7, and Orange Prickadilly is the hardest at 5.11a. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Gastonia run to highs around 74°F in April and October, while July highs average about 91°F. That station sits roughly 500 feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the rock run a little cooler.
