Shadow Castle is a climbing area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among several other climbing areas and trails, including Devonshire, Albion and Baldy, all within about a tenth of a mile, and the White Diamond Trail. The climbing here is a mix of sport and mixed routes, with seven routes in total. The grades run from 5.6 up to 5.10+, and the hardest are Barbican and Portcullis, both 5.10+ sport routes. The Keep and The Moat are mixed routes at 5.6, and East Bastion is a sport route at 5.9-. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July peaking near 84°F. Nearby, the 7 Hills Trail and the Seven Hills hike are both within a mile. Across the state line in New Jersey, the Ramapo River offers fishing about 4 miles away.
