Owl Cave

Owl Cave is a bouldering area in New York, about 0.2 miles from the village of Shenandoah. It sits right next to Cookie's Crag, another climbing area, and the two make a convenient pairing for a day on the rock. The climbing here is all bouldering, with seven routes graded across the V scale from V1 to V4-5. The V1 routes That Gum You Like and Log Lady, both first ascents by Tyler Heitmann, are the easiest to get started on, while Garmonbozia at V4-5 is the most challenging. The Arm and The Woodsmen fall in the V3 range. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from the Stormville weather station, about 3 miles away and roughly 400 feet lower, run to highs around 72°F in May and 74°F in September, with July peaking near 83°F. Winters there are cold, with January highs around 35°F. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes about 3.5 miles away. Paddlers can head to Fishkill Creek, about 7 miles off, and Murrow Park Pawling, a climbing area about 9.7 miles away, rounds out the options.
