Diesel and Ice Cube Area is a bouldering area in New York, about a mile from the community of Steinbeck Corners. Its name points to two of the climbing spots it groups together: The Ice Cube and Diesel Boulder, both within a tenth of a mile. The Mercury Area sits just as close, so the whole cluster works as one compact destination for boulderers. The area offers seven bouldering routes, all rated from V1 to V8 on the V scale. The easiest is True Snake at V1, and the hardest is Circle J at V8. Fake Snakes and Put Your Back Into It are both V3, while Drywall is V5. Summer is the warmest stretch for climbing here. Typical July highs reach about 78°F with lows near 61°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station at Carmel. September is milder, with typical highs around 70°F and the fewest wet days of the year. Several other destinations lie within a few miles. The Cliff Trail and Sterling Farm Trail (Red) are both about 2.5 miles away, Leaf Trail is about 3 miles off, and the East Branch Croton River offers canoeing about 5 miles from the area.
