2.1 Monkey Bar is a climbing area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Giving Tree, p. East End and Dragon all about 0.1 mile away. The White Diamond Trail is 0.2 mile off, and the 7 Hills Trail is 0.6 mile away. The area has 12 routes, 11 of them sport and one a boulder. Grades run from 5.4 up to 5.10+, with the hardest route, Stealth Entry, at 5.10+. Monkey Chimney is the easiest at 5.4, and Orangutan Arete is 5.8. The boulder route is V0. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July peaking near 84°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the park, so temperatures on the rock run a little cooler. The Ramapo River, about 4 miles away, offers river fishing, and Monksville Reservoir, about 8 miles away, has lake fishing.
