The Beard is a climbing area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among several other climbing spots, with The Nose and The Ear both about 0.1 mile away, and Kitty Doll at the same distance. The White Diamond Trail is 0.2 mile off, so the area works well for a day that combines climbing with a short walk. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.3 to 5.10c. Rough Skin is the easiest at 5.3, and Fiddlers Elbow is the hardest at 5.10c. The median grade is 5.8+. The Nose and The Ear are close by, so climbers can easily pair routes at The Beard with those at the neighboring areas. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July peaking near 84°F. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the park, so temperatures on the rock may run slightly cooler.
