Lean-To Campsite #8
Campground
White Trail is a short, easy hike in New York, about half a mile long and rising roughly 120 feet from a low of about 370 feet to a high of about 508 feet. It starts near Sarles Corners, about 0.6 miles away, and is a point-to-point route rather than a loop. The trail is rated easy, and the climb is gentle. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.35 miles in, with a grade of about 10 percent. The route also has a small drop of about 72 feet, so the total gain and loss are close to equal. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Stamford, Connecticut, show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. The trail makes an easy addition to a day spent exploring the surrounding area. Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve is about 1.5 miles away, and Southern Loop is about 1.9 miles off. Climbers can head to Trudeau Boulders, about 2.1 miles away, and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation is about 4.6 miles away.
