Short Job Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in New York's High Peaks Wilderness, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The trail is about 0.33 miles long, and the round trip covers roughly 0.66 miles with a total elevation gain of about 417 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.26 miles in, and the high point sits at 2,814 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the high peaks run cooler. The trail makes an easy pairing with other routes in the area. Orebed Brook Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Southside Trail and Woodsfall Trail are each about 0.6 mile off. Climbers can head to the E: High Peaks Region climbing area, about 1.1 miles away.
