Klondike Notch Trail is a 5-mile point-to-point hike in New York's High Peaks Wilderness, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The route gains about 1,165 feet, with the high point at 3,183 feet, and the climb is back-loaded, so the steeper stretch comes later in the hike. The trail starts at about 3,070 feet and ends lower, at around 2,045 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the high peaks run cooler. The hike takes about two hours. Yard Mountain Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and Orebed Brook Trail, Short Job Trail and Big Slide Trail are each about 1.3 miles off.
