Green Trail is a short, easy hike in New York, about half a mile from the town of Vista. The route is an out-and-back of roughly a mile, with a total climb of about 66 feet and a steady grade that peaks at about 2% around the 0.37-mile mark. The trail starts and ends at nearly the same elevation, with the high point at about 603 feet and the low at about 578 feet. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Stamford, Connecticut, show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. That station sits several hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The Blue Trail lies about 0.9 miles away, and the Old Church Lane Preserve Trail is about 1.8 miles off. Climbers can head to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, about 4.4 miles away, and paddlers to the Norwalk River, about 4.8 miles away.
