Photo: daveynin, CC BY 2.0 (via Flickr)Fish Hawk Cliffs Trail is a short, moderate hike in New York, about 4 miles from the town of Saint Huberts. The trail is 0.6 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 134 feet, and it is a point-to-point route rather than a loop. The climb is gentle, with the steepest stretch coming early on, around 0.06 miles from the start, where the grade reaches about 11 percent. The trail begins at roughly 2,637 feet and reaches a high point of about 2,669 feet before descending slightly to about 2,520 feet at the end. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, and the station sits about 780 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the cliffs run cooler. The Indian Head Trail and the Indian Head Crossover Trail both start about 0.1 miles away, and the Sawteeth Scenic Trail is about 0.4 miles off. Climbers can find Pyramid Peak about 1.8 miles away.
