Jose Vigil is a moderate hike of about 5.8 miles in the Pecos Wilderness, part of the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that climbs from about 9,638 feet to about 11,643 feet, with a total gain of about 2,002 feet. The route is not open to bikes, and the trail is marked as natural, so expect a rougher path than a developed road. The climb is the main challenge, and the high point sits well above the low point. Vigil Lake lies about 1.3 miles away, and East Baldy and Trailriders are each about 2.5 miles off. For an overnight stay, Borrego Mesa campground is about 5.8 miles away.
