South Azul is a moderate hike of about 3.6 miles in the Pecos Wilderness, part of the Pecos-Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that gains about 986 feet from its low point of 10,287 feet to a high of 11,283 feet. The route is rated moderate, and the trail is open to horses. Bikes are not allowed. Two other hikes, Trailriders and Sebadilloses, sit within half a mile, and East Baldy is about 1.6 miles away. For an overnight base, Iron Gate campground is about 6 miles off, and Trampas Lakes Fishing is about 4.5 miles away.
